Google Pixel has one of the industry leading photographic capabilities. The images shot are true to life and even outperforms the iPhones and Samsung flagships. Their secret is not the hardware but the software implementation.
Some folks at the XDA Developers managed to port the Pixel’s Camera App to other Android devices as well. I’ll leave direct links to the page where you could download the app for your phone.
What’s the advantage?: Well for starters we the have HDR+ Enhanced mode which just nails the shadows and highlights in the image. Next off, we have the Night Sight (Yaaayy!). It’s the Google’s term for Night Mode and it makes magic with the images which are shot in total darkness.
Look at the images below:

Those images were shot on complete darkness, even though OnePlus 6 has OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) it couldn’t crank up the ISO enough to produce a usable image. GCam on the other hand has cast a magical spell I have to say. (Just look at the details and exposure of the image). Well, it also has our all time favorite Portrait Mode. The quality is amazing and the edge detection is on point and this works better than the night sight.
The Downside: Sometimes the app tends to crash while shooting in night sight mode. Some devices tend to heat up after prolonged usage. but other than that this one is a must try. Different outputs are produced my different phones, as the app is modded differently for each phone and also depends on it’s processing capabilities.
